Comparing Architect Quotations? Match the Drawings, Engineering and Approval Scope First
Two architectural quotations are comparable only when they cover the same brief. Before comparing the total or rate, establish what will be designed, drawn, coordinated and reviewed—and what will be appointed separately.
Ready to define the appointment?
Share your site locality, proposed building use and current stage with Square Space. We can discuss the design, engineering coordination or project-management scope you need before preparing an appropriate proposal.
Calling? Mention the Square Space website. Share a description in the form, not private documents.
Send the same brief to the professionals you approach.
For a house or commercial project in Kalyan or Thane, begin with the site location, available measurements, intended use, approximate scale if known and current stage. Note whether you need a new concept, a permission proposal, detailed coordination or assistance with an existing file.
If one person is asked only for a floor plan and another for design, structural coordination and construction-stage services, their headline prices answer different questions. Do not fill missing site information with invented areas just to obtain a quick rate. Our build-from-scratch roadmap helps identify the stage you are commissioning.

Clarify the basis before comparing the number.
| If the fee is described as… | Ask… |
|---|---|
| A fixed / lump-sum amount | Which specific deliverables, assumptions, revisions and project extent does it cover? |
| A rate per area | Which area definition and measured quantity are being used, and how will a change be handled? |
| A percentage of works cost | Which works and cost basis are included, and when is that basis established or adjusted? |
| Separate stage fees | What is delivered at each stage, what triggers payment and what happens if the scope changes or pauses? |
The Council of Architecture’s published service / charge reference distinguishes types and scopes of professional services. It is not Square Space’s quotation. We do not publish an invented local rate or imply that one online number is the right price for every project. Request the actual project scope and fee assumptions in writing.
Put the deliverables beside one another.
| Workstream | Clarification to request |
|---|---|
| Concept and design development | Plans, elevations, sections, design options and the extent of design development. |
| Permission / sanction drawings | Which submission set, authority coordination and responses are within the appointment? Authority acceptance is not guaranteed. |
| Working / construction information | Which detailed drawings and coordination outputs will be issued for execution? A presentation render is not that drawing set. |
| Structural and other engineering | Who is appointed, what is included, and who resolves interfaces? Additional specialist disciplines are confirmed separately. |
| 3D visualization | Which views, model or walkthrough outputs, and how many agreed revision stages? |
| Site visits / construction-stage involvement | Purpose, frequency and reporting expectations; occasional visits are not automatically full-time site supervision. |
| Project management and third-party services | Is this included, separately appointed or excluded? Clarify surveys, legal advice and other specialist inputs rather than assuming them. |
Use “included / excluded / separate appointment / not yet defined” next to each line. A low price with an unresolved column is not yet a like-for-like comparison. Equally, do not buy services your actual project does not need.
Name the responsibility, not just the drawing.
Ask who receives authority remarks, who updates the architectural set and how engineering changes will be coordinated. Confirm what information the owner must supply and what the contractor is expected to execute or clarify. One consultant’s appointment does not silently appoint every other professional.
For architectural design, consulting engineering and project management, Square Space can discuss the relevant scope. Legal title advice, licensed surveys and specialist work must be identified appropriately; this guide is not a claim that every line in the worksheet is provided in-house or included in one fee.
Resolve revisions, visits and extra costs before work starts.
- What is an agreed design revision, and what counts as a changed brief?
- What happens if the proposed area, use, programme or authority requirement changes?
- Which site visits, travel or reimbursable expenses are included?
- Which statutory charges, third-party fees and applicable taxes sit outside the professional fee?
- How are stage deliverables, owner approvals and payment milestones recorded?
- How will the engagement be paused, ended or extended if needed?
These are commercial clarification questions, not a contract drafted for your project. Seek appropriate independent advice before signing terms you do not understand. Do not assume an architect’s professional fee includes the authority’s charges or a contractor’s construction cost.
Ask for an appointment that matches your next decision.
If your main uncertainty is the land, start with site feasibility rather than commissioning a complete building package. If the brief is ready, explain the deliverables and coordination you need. The existing Kalyan / Thane preparation guide helps assemble the initial property information; this worksheet helps compare the appointment that follows.
Use the Kalyan or Thane service context and request a conversation with the studio. A suitable professional scope is agreed after discussing the actual project, not inferred from a generic online price list.
Sources & scope.
An owner’s scope-comparison guide, not a fee offer, a mandatory tariff, a contract or a promise that all services are included. Square Space pricing, deliverables and specialist appointments are agreed for the actual brief. Sources reviewed 18 October 2026. Portal interfaces and applicable provisions can change.
